Another episode from the year of the leg.
Half way through the year, Tom had surgery to straighten the bone that was causing him so much havoc. A couple of weeks later, I drug him up to Wyoming, to Fremont Lake, along with friends and our kayaks. After lying around in bed for the first two days, I finally got him up and out for a row. It was the best medicine he could get. Just the fact that he could be out on the water, moving under his own power, was, I think, his first indication that life was going to be okay.
Never underestimate the healing power of being outside, in fresh air and sunshine, moving your body, exercising your mind, seeing and feeling all that nature has to give and can do for your soul. It was the beginning of a long end to this trauma. But the end did come, and he recovered fully. The Nature Fix. Forest Bathing. It does a body good.
So true.
